Activity Description:
With the obesity rate in the United States at a staggering 40%, will GLP-1/GIP medications be the exit off this superhighway toward chronic disease? Learn what makes these medications unique for weight management and their long-term clinical and financial impacts. Discover the role pharmacists play with these popular medications. 

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:

  1. Analyze landmark clinical trials of GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists for the weight management indication.
  2. Describe potential adverse effects and long-term impacts of GLP-1/GIP medication use.
  3. Identify strategies for addressing GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP drug shortages.
  4. Recognize opportunities for pharmacy to collaborate with and support primary care and medical weight management outpatient clinics.

At the completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:

  1. Describe potential adverse effects and long-term impacts of GLP-1/GIP medication use.
  2. Identify strategies for addressing GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP drug shortages.
  3. Recognize opportunities for pharmacy to collaborate with and support primary care and medical weight management outpatient clinics.
