AI 101: Applications, Use-Cases, and What's Next

Activity Description:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping healthcare — including how pharmacists and healthcare teams are staffed, trained, and supported. In this foundational session, pharmacy professionals will gain a clear understanding of key AI concepts, including machine learning, natural language processing, and large language models (LLMs). Participants will explore how companies are using AI to streamline healthcare staffing and onboarding processes. This session demystifies the technology and terminology so attendees can confidently discuss AI's role in pharmacy practice and anticipate future applications in clinical and administrative settings.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists and technicians will be able to:

1. Describe the basic concepts of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP) relevant to healthcare and pharmacy practice.
2. Discuss current use-cases of AI, including how AI is leveraging large language models (LLMs) to improve healthcare staffing and onboarding.
3. Identify potential future applications of AI that may enhance workflow efficiency, staff readiness, and patient care outcomes in pharmacy and broader healthcare settings.
