Keeping Up with Compliance

This activity will discuss the importance of having effective Fraud, Waste & Abuse and HIPAA compliance programs. History and the elements of compliance requirements will be discussed. Consequences of non-compliance including monetary penalties will also be presented. Will also include advice and tools for pharmacists and technicians on how to implement and maintain effective compliance programs in a busy independent pharmacy.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists and technicians will be able to:
1. Discuss the Medicare Part D requirements for Fraud, Waste & Abuse Compliance (FWAC).
2. Understand the HIPAA Rules and how they apply to Pharmacy Practice.
3. Discuss the penalties of non-compliance with FWAC and HIPAA.
4. Provide employers, peers and other employees, tools for implementing and maintaining effective compliance programs.
