Texas Law: Everything You Need to Know about Controlled Substances

This session will cover dispensing of controlled substances. Requirements for valid controlled-substance prescriptions – including labeling requirements, emergency, and partial-fill dispensing – and appropriate pharmacy recordkeeping will be outlined, together with concepts such as “corresponding responsibility” and “good faith dispensing.” The pharmacist’s role in ensuring the validity of a controlled-substance prescription will be discussed in detail.

”ACPE Texas Pharmacy Association (154) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements.

This lesson is a knowledge-based CE activity and is targeted to pharmacists and technicians. This program has been approved for 1.0 contact hours of continuing education credit (0.1 CEUs). ACPE UAN #0154-0000-16-001-H03-P/T

Ellis is an attorney in the Austin area who represents pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy owners in enforcement actions and audits before the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory agencies. She also advises licensed providers in administrative and transactional matters related to their practices. Ms. Ellis is Board-Certified in Administrative Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
