Summary

Changing Patient Perceptions will allow the audience a look at the progression of patient counseling and patient engagement through the decades and its impact for the future. This program will look at the literature surrounding the benefits and obstacles of patient counseling while exploring the recent evolution of patient engagement through tools such as motivational interviewing and healthcare communications. Take a journey from the past, to the present, and into the future of pharmacist's role in communications, patient engagement, and counseling.

At the completion of this activity, the pharmacists and technicians will be able to:
1. Observe the progression of patient counseling and engagement through recent history.
2. Review literature and resources highlighting the benefits and obstacles of patient counseling.
3. Explore patient engagement tools such as motivational interviewing and healthcare communications.
4. Discover the future of the pharmacist's role in patient engagement and counseling.

”ACPETexas Pharmacy Association (154) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements. This lesson is an application-based CE activity and is targeted to pharmacists. This program has been approved for 1.0 contact hours of continuing education credit (0.1 CEUs).

Clinical Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice - The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy
Dr. Ashley Garling is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Pharmacy Practice Division of the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Garling has dedicated her career to pharmacy promotion, patient engagement, and public education. Dr. Garling is fundamentally interested in the evolution of pharmacy utilizing communication and technology.
