Summary

Come learn the latest regarding the Texas Medicaid Pharmacy program from none other than the head of the Medicaid Vendor Drug Program herself, Gina Marie Muñiz, along with her staff member Priscilla Parrilla. They will help you identify major components of how the Vendor Drug Program operates including management of the formulary, preferred drug list, and clinical prior authorizations. Gain a better understanding of the prescription drug benefits in fee-for-service and managed care. Walk away excited about the opportunities for pharmacists in the upcoming pharmacy delivery models that will improve cost-effectiveness for the Medicaid Program and improve health outcomes for Medicaid/CHIP beneficiaries.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists and technicians will be able to:
1. Identify major components of how the Vendor Drug Program operates, including management of the formulary, preferred drug list, and clinical prior authorizations.
2. Recognize the key differences between the prescription drug benefits in fee-for-service and managed care.
3. Describe new upcoming pharmacy delivery models that improve cost-effectiveness with the goal of improving health outcomes for Medicaid/CHIP beneficiaries.

Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements. This lesson is an application-based CE activity and is targeted to pharmacists and technicians.
