Summary

As technology continues to advance, it changes the landscape of entire industries. Healthcare is no different, as new innovations are constantly introduced to the field which help healthcare professionals serve patients better. In pharmacy specifically, there are many innovations that have been introduced that change the practice, but there are still many more that are being introduced currently or will be in the near future. It’s important to know what these innovations are, how they can be implemented and used, and the legal implications of each. This presentation breaks down these technologies into how they can be used in your pharmacy today to increase revenue, loyalty, and patient satisfaction.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Describe the impact of past pharmacy innovations on the advancement of the practice of pharmacy.
2. Evaluate the ways in which technology can be implemented in your practice to provide better patient outcomes.
3. Address common misconceptions surrounding technology in pharmacy, and discuss how they can be impactful in practice today.
4. Discuss legal and regulatory barriers associated with pharmacy innovation.

At the completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:
1. Understand the role of a pharmacy technician as pharmacy continues to evolve with new innovations.
2. Examine the viability of technicians performing their duties safely and accurately without the pharmacist supervision associated with traditional pharmacy methods.
