Summary

A complex patient is a patient with multiple medication conditions, multiple medications, and/or multiple detrimental social determinants of health that ultimately negatively impacts the patient's overall health status. This program will apply the medication appropriateness index to several complex patient cases' medication management. Information will include the updated American Geriatrics Society 2019 Updated AGS Beers Criteria for Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use in Older Adults.

At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
1. Perform the medication review process for complex patient cases.
2. Identify potential medication related problems using the updated 2019 AGS Beers Criteria.
3. Determine and prioritize medication goals for each complex patient case.

At the completion of this activity, technicians will be able to:
1. Understand the medication review process for complex patient cases.
2. Explain the process of potential medication related problems using the updated 2019 AGS Beers Criteria.

”ACPETexas Pharmacy Association (154) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Continuing education will be provided to participants who completed all course requirements. This lesson is an application-based CE activity and is targeted to pharmacists and technicians. This program has been approved for 1.0 contact hour of continuing education credit (0.1 CEU).
